"COINCIDENCES" of BEES
During the nine days of writing the initial draft of Ancient Pact®, bees kept drifting into the story. I noticed the unexpected visitors but I felt a sort of frenzy to get the story written so I decided not to edit as I typed. Prior to sitting down to actually write the story I had spent months outlining the story and preparing elaborate multi-colored index cards.
Oddly, even after years of writing the story in my dream and waking states, not once did I look at my carefully prepared notes and index cards. The story just flowed.
This wasn’t the logical approach I had planned to use but I decided to trust the process since it felt like the right thing to do.
For the Artemis' priestess segments, my cursory research indicated that the bear or stag are the most common animals associated with Artemis (Diana). My notes leaned more toward sprinkling references to deer gently throughout the story.
I had not planned for any references to bees at all.
While editing the manuscript, I made a list of the words and phrases I planned to eliminate or change. One of the first tasks on that list was to delete all references to bees, However, that was not to happen.
I input "Find: bee, Replace With: deer". Intuitively, I felt uncomfortable, like something was wrong. Logic told me this was the right thing to do. Not once had I heard or read of bees being associated with Artemis and I did not want to look like a fool. So I pressed "Enter". My computer froze and did nothing.
This had not happened on any of the other edits and my computer was only a few months old so I was surprised and maybe even a bit annoyed. I rebooted the computer, tried a couple of other words and then tried to replace bees with deer. Again the computer locked up. Realizing this was probably not a coincidence, I decided to take a lunch break and think it over.
After some internal deliberation, I again rebooted the computer and began searching for a connection between bees and Artemis. Surprisingly, a very strong relationship existed between the magical insects and the great goddess.
According to my research, the name Ephesus translates to "City of Bees." The original Artemis temple in Ephesus was designed to reflect the organization of a beehive.
I then turned my attention to one of the ancient statues of Artemis. Some scholars refer to some of Artemis's statues as "many breasted." Others have speculated that the assorted pouches on her front represent the scrotums of bulls or men castrated by the powerful warrior-goddess.
These strange bumps on her chest don’t look like breasts or scrotums to me. However, I noticed a remarkable resemblance between the arrangement of these "breasts" and ova in a honeycomb. Additionally, the overall shape of the Artemis statue is similar to that of a larval queen bee.
Digging deeper into the research, I found only one scholar, Sir William Ramsey, who had reached a similar conclusion about the statues of Artemis and her sacred bees-- the statues of Artemis portray Her as the Queen Bee that she is.
Some say coincidences are accidents or odd twists of chance. I believe coincidences occur where life and destiny intersect. I believe it was no accident that bees found their way into the Ancient Pact and I believe my karma or destiny is better served by leaving them as an important part our original guardianship promise.
MORE ON BEES
One afternoon i was sitting in the Anchorage
apartment of my friend, Carmen Forget, discussing Ancient Pact. Jazz music played quietly in the background. I was detailing the exciting synchronicity
between the bees I had written about and the research that seemed
to substantiate it.
Suddenly the music was replaced by a loud buzzing.
I asked Carmen if she heard the odd sound. With eyes open wide,
Carmen reported that she did. The sound grew louder and louder. Needless to say, we both laughed at the marvelous "coincidence"--especially since neither of us had heard
the commercial before, nor have we heard it since.
Hexagon Found on Saturn
The beautiful and perfect shape of a honeycomb's cell is also an unidentified phenomena found on the north pole of the planet Saturn.
Cassini Images Bizarre Hexagon on Saturn
Article from Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL)
"This is a very strange feature, lying in a precise geometric fashion with six nearly equally straight sides," said Kevin Baines, atmospheric expert and member of Cassini's visual and infrared mapping spectrometer team at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif. "We've never seen anything like this on any other planet..."
Bizarre Hexagon Spotted on Saturn
By SPACE.com Staff
"The honeycomb-like feature has been seen before. NASA's Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft imaged it more than two decades ago. Now, having spotted it with the Cassini spacecraft, scientists conclude it is a long-lasting oddity."
